Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

LAVA LOUIE GOO GRANDE REFILL EXPERIENCE = WHY WOULD YOU EVER REFILL ANY OTHER WAY? HA!

I have done it all.
Used existing lamps to refill a grande = a mess, not to mention the globe sacrifice and cost of buying complete lamps for a refill project. Filtering all the fluid is also time consuming and pain in the butt.

Made my own goo and fluid = Yuk talk about a time consuming nightmare of a mess, takes forever and adjusting the fluid is catch as catch can

Bought Louie's goo kit with everything needed included = Easy as eating fresh made blueberry pie. 3 minutes in the micro to melt the wax. Another minute to easily pour the wax into the Grande thru the funnel and large straw that goes all the way to the bottom of the globe. Let wax harden, (I put the covered globe on the porch to speed the process). Put 50 ml of the surficent in distilled water and pour into the globe. No muss, no fuss and you can easily make your own colors if you want.

Run the lamp with a 60 watt bulb instead of 100 watt bulb and use a 52z coil. Running a Louie goo Grande on 60 watts and a 52z coil for 12-13 hours will give you the same flow progression ending in a begin to overheat as US made Lava Lite lamps running on 100 watts does in less time.

The first run is way cool, gets all the ingredients used to each other and the goo is almost transparent. Got really cool spikes and great flow. After the first run the flow just gets better and better and the goo begins to become translucent, color richer/deeper with light still able to come thru the blobs. Real pretty goo.

Huge benefit using distilled water and louie surficent. The fluid is absolutely crystal clear. The reflections of the goo in the water are amazing. I cannot overstate the benefits of crystal clear fluid I have over 70 lava lamps most "crystal clear". I'm here to tell you nothing touches the clarity of distilled water. No comparison.

Have so many great pics of the initial run and will post more later of subseqent runs so you can see how the goo texture gradually changes.

Nothing like crystal clear fluid. Nothing like it.
I am completely sold.

How long did it take you to get your order from Louie?? I'm wondering if something's up as I placed an order on April 11th and haven't seen hide nor hair of the goo or had a response to any emails... :(
So, where did you find the instructions to actually use the kit? Mine (finally) showed up, but there was nothing in the box but the goo, the surfactant, and some plastic...
melt the goo. i use the microwave. put it in for 2 minutes, watch it, do not leave. when it's melted pour it into an empty globe with the straw and funnel. let cool. put in the distilled water and add surfactant. run the lamp. if the flow is what you want seal up the lamp. if you want a "stringer" flow add more surfactant.
start with 10ml of surfactant for a 32oz lamp.
I ordered a kit for my grande, but just have one question. Is it necessary that i use another coil than the one that came with my grande lamp cause i dont have any extra coils laying around? And another question is can you use the standard 100w light bulb that the grande has in it if you dont leave it on as long? Or do I need a 60w light bulb and if so whats the max time it can run before turning it off?
you can use the grande coil. When I've had them available I use a 52z coil but mostly the grande coil. doesn't matter, it will flow without a coil but flows best with one.
For perfect your way flow use the 100w reflective bulb on a dimmer and dial in the flow you like. If no dimmer I use a regular old 60watt bulb. Louie goo does not need the heat Lava World/Lite goo needs.
When home on the weekends I turn the lamps on when I get home on Friday night and don't turn them off until I leave for work on Monday morning using a 60 watt bulb or dimmer. Perfect flow all weekend.
K thanks for the reply and information.
Louie goo also starts it's flow life differently from what you're used to. The goo will make a big interesting ball that will float up then flip itself before settling back down to flow. I have pics of the Louie goo big ball and flip in pics on my profile.
Hey Woodvetch, I loved your pics with louie lava in them. Its obvious you have refilled alot of grandes with louie lava before so can you give me any pointers on getting my lid off my grande?
Ok I have another question kinda off the main discussion here, but I do have a grande purple/yellow lamp that i bought at Spencer's about 6 months ago. The lamp is clear, but the the only thing I dont like is the flow. It just shoots up 1 to a half inch spheres and they just fall back down. The main blob never leaves the base of the lamp. I have read on here that the bulb extender is good if your lava is making a tornado to help it flow right, so how do you make one flow right that has the problem mine is having?
Hey all. This seems like the appropriate place to ask questions about louie's goo. My goo order arrived today, and have 2 questions I hope someone can help with. Firstly, the bottle of surfactant I received is also a golden colour like jeff's and wondering if that is normal. Secondly, i got my colorants, and the green looks yellowish, the orange is reddish, and yellow is organe-ish. Is that the normal appearance of these colorants? Cheers!
Donoterase,
I sent you an email explaining the colors... The surfactant is suppose to look that way. It will in no way be visible once inside the lamp. Remember to use distilled water. The surfactant is chemically designed to work with distilled water only.

Jonny
Hey, thanks man. I emailed you after I wrote the post. I figured I'd get a response quicker direct from you. Thanks Jon.
