Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Hi. I hope somebody can help me with this. My brother has a blue-green glitter lava lamp he got a few years ago. He doen't use it much but recently he redid his bedroom and moved it into my room. I turned it on seeing if it still works and it did...sort of. It only lights up about a quarter of the way up the glass. The top part of the glitter lamp is a dark color and you can barely see the glitter moving around but the bottom part looks perfectly normal (the glitter is visible and the liquid is a bright green/blue color). I don't know if I have to replace the bulb or get a new lamp or what! I looked to see about the lightbulb but the glass bottle does not want to come out of the base....I am so confused with this lamp, I don't know what to do with it. Please help if you can.
