I have searched and searched the site for goo recipe tidbits and have had some success with my own wax but cannot get that "true" lava interaction/flow that I have with the older lamps that I have tuned up.
Onlookers that don't know how lava really flows think that my homemade lamps look good - but it drives me crazy and I find the flow quite boring. It is missing the long top to bottom stretch factor as well as the ability to re-combine / flow together....it never snakes or columns. I have mixed and remixed the fluid with surf and PG until I was blue in the face.... someone out there has to have some knowledge that can help. Please help a brother out
Some Questions:
(1) Wax - I have been using Gulfwax... is there any benefit to using a higher grade wax?
(2) Additives - for 1 cup of wax I have been adding 1/2 teaspoon of vaseline and 2 teaspoons of Microcrystaline Wax pellets. I just received some of the W-445 Microcrystaline Wax to see if that makes a difference as this is one of the additives from the original recipe.
Any feedback or opinions on:
(A) Other petroleum blends similar to vaseline?
(B) Beeswax?
(C) Lamp / paraffin oil?
(D) Mineral Oil?
(E) Would more perc make it heavier to encourage more stretch?
Notes:
I am using perc, sles, and PG... glycerin when required but have the wax dialed in on density so that it is light enough that I don't have to use the glyc these days.
