"what about if the wax is filled with bubbles and doing this?1985 century just wont flow, gets full of bubbles and then gets stuck in a column."

"gah! I spoke too soon. the day after I took this picture I got home and the lamp was all cloudy. I think I may have added too much propylene glycol, as theres a fine suspension of white particulate in the lamp. I'm going to try refilling it and…"

"Tried a 52oz globe this time, pretty happy with the results so far. flows beautifully, but runs a bit hot. I made this one just using kerosene, perc, paraffin, propylene glycol, and distilled water plus some candle dye for the wax. I think im going…"

"I made a lamp recently with that exact same dye!  its not perfect, and its a little imbalanced, but does fine with a dimmer. looks amazing too, i'll see if i can post some pictures of it"

"nevermind... think i figured it out. decided to try a 25w bulb instead of the 40w i thought was in the lamp, turns out whoever had it before me put a 60w bulb in it, which explains why the lava would stop flowing, the lamp was overheating. "

"I think some of my newer no-name chinese lamps use kerosene. one of them leaked slightly a while ago and it had a very distinct sort of petroleum/gas smell that I think is kerosene."

lava lite aristocrat stops flowing after 4ish hours

Hi all, managed to pick up a blue/yellow aristocrat for 12$ in box this past weekend, and it flows beautifully! right up until it doesnt. occasionally, it all blobs up at the bottom but barely any contacts the coil, and it sits like this until i turn the lamp off and let it settle. I don't think its overheating as it flows wonderfully right up until it does that. See More
