Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Was there really a green or orange US-made Lava Lite glitter globe?

It's referenced on Shawn's chart, but I've never seen a real legit orange or green Lava Lite glitter.

So, does it really exist? I have an orange one, but it's a mix of red and yellow glitter.

I saw this on eBay today and it was gone in a few hours. I don't think it's legit - I'm guessing a weird faded teal or something based on the seller's description of it having blueish-green fluid (even though it looks green to me).

Thoughts?

I had one too. Super dark and a different color at the top than the bottom.

I just turned mine off, it is aggravating me to no end, just plain junk.   Almost black with like 3 glitters.  Blech!!!!

ALL US globes with bottlecap tops are white caps with a red flowing "Lava Lite" in script and a printed code in black. No exceptions. If it has something different, it's not US-made, no matter what they claim.

Most, but by no means all, China caps are gold-tone, sometimes with a circular sticker on top.

Thankfully, the rest of mine are the white bottecaps, Jonas.   But that company where I bought the "Teal" said it was a discontinued LL brand bottle.   After I got mine, I noticed they suddenly added that the Teal was a China bottle.  Someone else must have complained to them.   I didn't see the cap before I bought it.

Actually if what I was told is true the gold colored bottle caps were made towards the end of the Lava Lite usa production run. Most china caps are now white with a sticker on them and have been that way for many years.

Gold caps do indeed exist and are very real. I have stamped versions that show date ranges from 2001-2003...yes 2003 US made globes. There were also non stamped gold capped globes released and non stamped LavaLite capped globes released. I have the green and orange glitters that I bought from a store that had some odd lamps at times, factory lamps. Some lamps were simply never released in bulk so people assume they are fakes or were never made.

LavaLite admitted they made the white wax globes but said they were never officially released....made but never released. I just posted a video showing a blue/blue factory lamp in the factory....made but never released...doesnt mean its not out there. I also posted a video showing the white wax globe on a TV show...made but never released. That old lamp with the ceramic base cover that just recently popped up....never seen before !! 40 years later it pops up...very real, very factory made.

I will post pics of some of the odd ones I have acquired over the years. Fakes are out there but there are also some very real ones out there too.

Plain gold bottle cap green glitter, US made. Bought from Chicago head shop around 2000-2001

Plain gold bottle cap orange glitter, US made. Bought from Chicago head shop around 2000-2001

Stamped gold capped #16  52oz globe from 2001, US made. Bought online with the Bat Man base, NIB.

Stamped gold capped #03  32oz from 2002, US made. This was a Ebay win, NIB Wizard base

Stamped gold capped #24  32oz globe from 2002, US made. This was also bought online, NIB Wizard base

Stamped gold capped #24  32oz globe from 2002, US made. Same as above ^^

Stamped gold capped #12 from 2003...yes 2003, US made. This was bought online around 2004, NIB Green Electric base

Plain LavaLite capped #01  52oz, bought NIB as Americana test release. Bought online, I ordered 2 and received 1. Verified by LavaLite these are real.

Plain LavaLite capped #01  32oz. Bought from Chicago head shop around 2002. Guy went back to get a pink and came back with this. Verified by LavaLite these are real.

Finally an odd stamped LavaLite #16  52oz that came with my Harley lamp

There are also some other oddities that exist. There were a few hand capped globes that went on certain lamps that had a plastic LavaLite medallion on the bottle cap. The only known examples are on the prototype SouthPark lamps. WeeboTech had it at one time but I believe Jim is now the owner of that lamp. There were 8 ?? made but I have only seen the same 2 on here, the other 6 are somewhere.

The video I posted shows teal and peach Electriks, a blue/blue globe and a lot of other stuff not seen. Made but not released. They had the neon green bases ready for release with the Electrik line in 1992 but never sold them until 2002. Im sure there is something else not yet seen, just like the recent ceramic based Century.

Whoa, so there IS a real green and orange glitter. You've got some super rare stuff there Jim! Thanks so much for sharing!

Great info Lamphead!  I really appreciate your input.

Thanks, so much for posting all this great info, Lamphead.   Had I known that there really were orange and green glitter Wizards, I would have taken a chance on the one Erin pictured above.  I was sitting here watching when it came up on a BIN.

Marley, that one was not a legit green anyhow!

Good thing I didn't take the chance when I felt leery then!!   That would have been a "newb" mistake----again.  LOL
