Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

I have this 30w bulb and my lamp has suddently started overheating very soon. I have pulled the bulb out and looked at it and it looks like the wire inside the bulb is apmost tangled with itself? I have a spare bulb and it is not tangled. Im going to start using the new bulb but what could of caused the other bulb to tangle? And would it of been the tangle causing overheating?

I could see the tangle causing a short in the bulb which I suppose could cause excess heat.  It's surprising the filament hasn't just broke.

Maybe a support broke and let the filament twist together.  Sometimes you just get a defective bulb.
