Found oozinggoo.com when I was looking for ways to repair the Grande I picked up at CostCo a few years ago. It's one of the Chinese made ones that has gone extremely cloudy and ceased to flow (going to try replacing the fluid one of these weekends).
It was here that I found out about really big Lava lamps. I was bowled over by videos of the Colossus lamps and really want to see if I could get one, I couldn't find them available anywhere so I wrote LavaLite. I wanted to let this group know what I got this from Lava Lite today:
We have a special promo on the Colossus for serious buyers. This will be the last time the Colossus will be seen.
Please see attached promo sheet with pricing included.
If you are interested please contact on my direct line at 630-496-6663.
Best regards,

Sadly these prices are outside of my discretionary funds, even though they include shipping. I post it in hopes that someone here may be interested.

So anyone regret the base they picked and want to swap? Silver is all they had left for me and I'd prefer the black base. Anyone actually pick theirs up directly from Elmhurst?
Colossus arrived safe and sound. He is resting comfortably for now. Pictures to follow. :)
Hi Ken,
The 250W bulbs they use now are not IR bulbs in the true sense as they have a large percentage of visible light. An example of a true IR bulb is a warming lamp used in restaurants that has little red visible emissions. All lava lamps (including the old Colossus 200W) depend upon IR emissions to warm up the lamp. A monochromatic source like LEDs or CFLs have little IR thus much of the energy is converted into visible light only making them highly efficient. Does this answer your questions?

This was also a question I asked a few pages ago but no one chimed in and I still wonder this and hope there is someone that could chime in that has some input on this here is my question below from a few pages ago.
Does anyone have any info on the bulbs used now they are 250 watt infra red heat lamps I just wonder the long term effect on the lava will it fade it over time or can it burn the lava I know it has the dimmer but it is still infra red heat. The originals were 200 watt flood or spot lamps which do not run in the infra red spectrum.
As we all expected, there is a new group for lovers of Colossus/Humongo and other large lamps:

No because they ARE listed as infrared lamps the lights are made by phillips they are stated on the box HEAT LAMP ideal for heating bathrooms and animal habitats and also on the box it is stated INFRARED tecnology. The 200watt bulb that the orig used was for indoor spot lighting a heat lamp has a special glass lens and special reflector that focuses and radiates heat to one area the 200watt SPOT LAMP has a frosted lens and diff reflector yes all lamps emit ir but a heat lamp as stated does it with intensity. LEDs and CFLs dont produce the heat because they dont have a filament in them as stated a normal light bulb has a tungston filament that heats to over 3 thousand deg its not IR producing the heat its the filament. They are now using LEDs for IR therapy in hospitals.
