Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Found oozinggoo.com when I was looking for ways to repair the Grande I picked up at CostCo a few years ago.  It's one of the Chinese made ones that has gone extremely cloudy and ceased to flow (going to try replacing the fluid one of these weekends).

It was here that I found out about really big Lava lamps.  I was bowled over by videos of the  Colossus lamps and really want to see if I could get one, I couldn't find them available anywhere so I wrote LavaLite.  I wanted to let this group know what I got this from Lava Lite today:

We have a special promo on the Colossus for serious buyers.   This will be the last time the Colossus will be seen.

Please see attached promo sheet with pricing included.

If you are interested please contact on my direct line at 630-496-6663.

Best regards,

Sadly these prices are outside of my discretionary funds, even though they include shipping.  I post it in hopes that someone here may be interested.

Great idea. I also have a couple of these speed controllers for circulation fans; I wonder if they would work better. I'll have to try it when I get home: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000HQAVNI

Initial test concluded, the dimmers we use on the smaller lamps to prevent overheating provide much finer control on the colossus.  So much finer that I still haven't gotten the y/p I'm testing it on to reach flowing stage yet, but I'm only increasing the heat a smidge at a time.  I"m slowly working up to a sweeter spot, I hope.

So, for those that don't like the factory dimmer, try one of the lamp cord ones to see if you get better results.

That's right. None of this is a solution, just a band-aid. We shouldn't need band-aids on a "new" product.

Bridget,

I have been doing this for a few weeks now it works for me as a main switch. Once I found the best setting on the main dimmer I added the second dimmer for a separate on and off control thus not needing to touch the lamp's primary dimmer again. It helps but is not a solution to me.

Im using a Westinghouse bulb in one and the Phillips in the other and the Westinghouse seems to be better as well. The Westinghouse 250 heat bulb was $5 at my local Do It Best hardware store.

Ben,

Try a Sylvania clear 250w heat lamp bulb, available att Lowes, they are just over $6 with tax and I found it to be better than the Phillips bulb that LL sent with the lamps. Oh, and try my 1% adjustment instructions, posted a couple days ago, after you get the bulb.

I was wondering who else got a clear/black besides Deb? I would love to see more pics of the clear/black runnig!

Jethro...has one. :) Tim did you see the vid I posted? The flow is magnificent.

Anyone receive their tables yet?

I wish, I have the glass, but still waiting on the piece that it rests on..  Someone was saying within the next week or 2 we shoud be getting them.

FINALY GOT MY COLOSSUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :P

Mine comes off the coil still, but not as easy as it did before. I can now turn up the heat and get proper flow out of the lamp for hours.
How long have you been cycling it to get to this point? I was able to get a column tonight that wasn't a collapsing turd coil. Yay! But then it got stuck... 3 times in a row. Boo!

The more I cycle mine the better it flows

Woooooooooooooooo!! I hope you love it. :)

I've been having a problem with bubbly wax here recently, and wasn't before. It's flowing much better, all around, but yesterday I had a LOT more bubbles than usual. Anybody else having a lot of bubbles? I'm hoping this is just a phase the lamp is going through.
