Ok folks... what are you using for dimmer switches? Can you please post links or photos?

I found some perfect dimmers the other day for only a couple of quid each. Best thing is they fit perfectly next to each other on a strip or you can just dim a whole strip with one if you are using all the same lamps.

I use these and put a little mark on it for the "sweet spot" so to speak.

Pretzel Gal that is only a hi-low switch, it will not dim bulbs, it should not be advertised as it is. This is the exact cord and dimmer that came on all the ceramic series lavas http://www.itcelectronics.com/product_info.php?products_id=3811 I have not been able to find these dimmers without cord but it is cheaper then amazon for the same product.

Well that's frustrating. I was just hoping to swop out for some kind of on the cord dimmer. :/ I'd like to stay away from added cords as my space is small.

I think this is the one you had pictured without the cord. They look huge tho!

Bodhan, did you have to cut or rewire your cord to use this? I had just bought one and that's what the instructions are saying to do. :(

Also, did you have to remove your click wheel to use this?

If you don't want to cut your cord, you can always get a extension cord and cut that instead

Installed and test drove the dimmer last night. Needless to say that I am thrilled! It makes me wonder why all lamps don't come with a dimmer built in, tbh. I think I will pick up some dimmers for those who I gifted lamps to over Christmas time. You have so much more time to enjoy the flowwwww.... :D COOL.

I like using 25W lamps in place of 40W. The heat produced in the end is equal to the wattage of lamp, but the light output is an exponential function. Dimmed to half the brightness, the power consumption is about 75%, so the lamp is getting 3/4 the heat while the brightness went down to half. The 25W bulb produces 62% heat, and provides about 62% brightness and the color remains the same.

Dimming causes the lumen output to decay dramatically and shifts the color temperature lower (undimmed is ~2900 to 3000K)

Dimmer is fine for fine tuning, but lower wattage lamp provides holds the same color temperature and brightness loss is roughly proportional to wattage drop, not more.

I'm gonna try the 25 W vs dimmer switch.

Percolation are you suggesting the 25 W for ALL lava/glitter lamps or just ones

that have been re-done with gookits?
