Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

SO today at my friends i found a 52 oz blue liquid and yellow wax lava lamp, he said it hadnt been used in years. i brought it home and turned it on, the yellow wax is a brownish color and im wondering if its faded, like if he had it in a windowsil and he didnt know that sunight makes it fade. Can anyone confirm that yellow fades to brown?

Well, I had a defective lava lamp which wax that was supposed to be originally purple (?) which however had turned into a nasty brown and had formed chunks of either too dense and unmeltable or too runny and /light wax. From what I've seen, brown is generally not an intended color seen in new lava lamps...
Yellow wax turns brown when it has been overheated too much. If it still works fine I would not worry about it.
