Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

I purchased some store brand (Kroger/Gerbes) food coloring to use with my goo kit and the results are less than desirable.  I tried making a purple/yellow, but the purple was very dark when the lamp was on.  I used a very small amount of dye - maybe 3-4 drops in a 32oz.  It just did not look like a LL lamp.  When off, it looked great though.  Is the McCormick's dye that much better?  Furthermore, does anyone know what LL/Mathmos use to color their water?

I use the mcCormick colors because they are the only brand that offers this: http://www.mccormick.com/~/media/Images/Products/Product%20Details/...

collection of colors over the standard RBGY and the "Neon" colors seem to be much closer to the colors used by LL.

Yea but there pink is not pink!

does anyone have a photo of a blue/white that was made with goo kit lava and mccormick's food coloring?

i also purchased the store brand "neon" colors, and they did not work well for me.  i'm wondering if the quality of mccormick's is that much greater...

I've only used McCormick Neon. (Lamphead suggestion) And I usually mix in a cup first to test the color before adding to the globe. (Erin suggestion) One drop of blue went really dark in one cup of water so 3 may have been a bit much but not familiar with the Kroger brand.

i did the same, deb, but tested it out in a globe.  i got the color i wanted, then dumped it and added DI water and the same amount of food coloring that looked good.

does anyone know what LL/mathmos uses for coloring liquid?
