Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Hello I recently got a century off of ebay. The flow wasnt that good and after lots of research there seems to be a piece I am missing. Looks like there is a sleeve that slides in after you put the bulb in. Its hard to guess by just looking at pictures so could someone tell me if this is true? Also if it is, where would I get that part? Thanks!!  Mark

I think what you're talking about is the heat ring. Some Centuries have them, some don't.

Andy has posted a pic of one here:

And when I was inquiring about one, he informed me you can kinda "make" one out of tinfoil. See here:

The heat ring would go in BEFORE the bulb, I think. What specifically about the flow isn't good?

Wow yeah the heat ring. I dont have it. I put my globe on a new base ( china designer 52oz) and it works great! Great flow, looks awesome. On the century base it gets just the funnel if I am lucky. If I touch the globe on the century and the globe on the new ( china ) lamp, and they both have the same bulb, the century is way cooler, so it leads me to believe I need the heat ring!
Mark i have a century from the 70s that is lazy so i run it on a 60 watt bulb dimmed instead of the heat ring because hear ring is for 90s centuries. I tried a tinfoil one in it and it didnt work so if yours is from the 70s you may want to try a 60 watt bulb dimmed.

Thanks for the replies and info everyone!! Kempton it is marked 71 on the bottom. The globe is not the kind that the top is screwed on, it is a cap and the bottle cap looks like my 90's era 32oz lamps when spencers had every color ever made. I dont know about dating these things, but thats what I have! The globe works great on a current generation base from china with a 40 watt bulb, so the heat ( or lack of ) seems to be the issue. I did put a 50 watt r20 indoor halogen in it and it worked like crazy, so I think the dimmer thing is the route I will take if I cant find, or make a heat ring. I also have a Carlisle that works better on a 90's base with a appliance bulb than on the base it came with. Any suggestions for that one? I appreciate everyones time and help!!

mark since its a bottle cap it is past 1995 so your good. Try a frosted 60 watt appliance bulb. I have one in my 73 century and it looks amazing. I dont own a charlise so i cant say anything about that. Also the new bases and the aristocrat bases run much hotter than century bases.
I will try a frosted 60 watt!!. I have a 50 watt indoor halogen for recessed lighting, with a dimmer and it seems to work pretty good, so I guess its just experimenting to get past various problems. I want to try the 60 watt bulb tho. Bulbs are chep enough anyway so its worth experimenting.  This is sorta off topic, but I have never seen another one of these online...I have a clear plexiglass stand for 32oz lamps. It was sold at spencers and was expensive if I remember correctly. I havent seen one online anywhere. I will try to post a pic Thanks for the help! Mark

Oooh, that is a neat stand. When did you get it and how much was it? I've not seen anything like that for sale, nor have I seen anyone here own one.
That Designer lamp doesn't look clear to me, Mike. :(

it's a rare thing to find. Nice collection dude, I am kinda intrigued to get that designer lamp you have. Where did you buy it and get it so clear, I think the old display boxes are so cool but haven't gotten one yet.
I got the stand at spencers...mid 90s i believe.. I think it was, and dont hold me to this, but  I think it was 30 - 35 bucks...almost the price of a lamp.. I havent seen one anywhere else and curious if its a rare thing or what?? As for the designer, forgive me if I am wrong, but you mean the red one with yellow liquid? That pic is...I wanna say old, but maybe a month or two old, so I have moved them around and added more, but anyway I got it from amazon, and my intention was to replace the globe on my kiss lamp. Ex gf's cat broke it. The first one from amazon was super cloudy and went back. I believe, in the pic, that is the second one I got from amazon, and It has cleared up nicely. Still nowhere as good as the original, but its now resting on the kiss base and is working well!
Hopefully this is better.  dont mind the junk near the kiss lamp haha I was cleaning stuff... also this is a pic off my cell so its not a super quality pic. But you will be able to see its clearer.
