Need info on bottle cappers and caps

Where can I get a bottle capper?  I've heard the table mounted types are better than the hand held ones.  Does anybody out there have one they are pleased with and feel secure the contents won't leak out of the globe if accidentally tipped and left for several hours?

 

Also, what are the proper names/numbers for the caps that go on 20 oz and 32 oz globes?  I would think there is an industry standard on these things.

I picked up a hand capper not realizing it wouldn't work. Apparently some have made the hand cappers work by hammering them with a rubber mallet. I would say if your intent on opening these things get a bench capper and be done. Because of the different necks and neck widths many of the hand cappers will not work at all or without hammering them on.

A $30 bench capper will take care of any you come across with a 26mm cap.

I'm assuming the 32oz globes use a 26mm cap. What's the size for a 20oz?

Same size cap on 20oz. 90% of all us bottles are 26mm.

I looked at both globes to see what you are saying. Just seems the 20oz lip is a bit thinner from top to bottom. Never having used a bottle capper I suppose it conforms to different lip styles to get a proper crimp. Any more tips that might help me get a better seal on the bottle?

They sell different kinds of caps.. as long as you get decent caps with the seals on them your fine.. just don't reuse caps... you can move the stickers on top of them or put new ones on... but I wouldn't reuse old ones; they don't always re-seal.
