Question about a glued on century cap!

I bought a century lamp online about a year ago and knew that the cap was cracked and glued together... Well I guess I should have asked more questions or given this more thought, because when it arrived I realized the seller had glued the cap to the globe.

I would like to dump the contents, get a replacement cap and possibly paint the base. 

So anyone know how I can get this cap off the globe?

I do not care if it isn't salvageable!

If you don't care about the cap breaking, then maybe try drilling a hole in the top. (If it has glue on the glass threads maybe it's too hard to crack / chip off the plastic without damaging the globe or threads.) After drilling a hole in top and replacing contents, You would have to replug it with something (flush with the top) and epoxy it or something. Then use another decorative cap over it. As long as the plug was pretty flat, a decorative metal cap could cover it. I have never tried this, just an idea!

The lamp has been sitting in my closet for about a year now. Of course on top of the cracked cap it got pretty shook up in shipment.

Get a strap wrench

apply heat with a blow-dryer and then use the tool.  The heat "MAY" loosen the glue (don't touch the hot surface!).  If you are successful you may still have glue residue to clean up.

Or you could clean out a bottle-cap globe and transfer the contents of the classic globe to it.
