Hey all, hope everyone safe and doing well. Just dropping a note to my recent acquisitions. Picked up a Alien head Lava lamp minus the black plastic cap, for 20 bones! Just picked up a Nightmare…Continue
"So the lava is now rising and falling? Getting there slowly but surely. How high is your water level at this time? Were you able to fill to almost the top and get the lava moving up and down? Let us know. Thanks!"
"If there is still wax on the bottom, when the upper portion is hanging up there it is separated and the two have to come together, if this can not happen then might have to throw a goo kit in it or change to a glitter lamp. Keep at it, am sure…"
"I just put two straws together and swirled it a few times to ensure I got them to mix together, or like a skewer something the width of a pop cicle stick, my straws were a little larger than a regular straw. Once it is all melted should stir…"
"Well, I know they can get outrageous with those prices. But, just because something is old don't mean it's worth a mint! Getting older and getting further into collecting, you start going for quality of lamps vs. quantity of…"
"Donald, you did buy an up converter correct from 110 to 220? Just a travel adapter will get it into the plug but will not raise the voltage to run the bulb at proper temperature for the lamp to function correctly. Thanks. Shoot…"
"I wont buy anything post 2003, all that crap is China made. Study well what is available on ebay, offer up, craigslist. There are quite a number of lamps that are out there worth having. Just be sure to ask questions, don't be…"
Hi Mr MaGoo-Sorry so long to respond, and thanks for your sweet message! How's stuff? I'm fine, jus kinda lost my shine for the lamps after my $$$ ran out. LOL Still waitin' for my ship to come in...heh!
the metallics I had were original mathmos metallics, nothing selfmade. But there seem to be several ways to create metallic wax. One is the sharpie way Dr What came up with (as far as I know) and you just put the contents of a few silver sharpie markers into the wax and the other way would be adding a small amount of the liquid metal motion lamp wax into your wax. They are china brand and they are easily available in the us. They have so much metallic stuff in them that a small amount is enough to end up with the nice metallic surface the mathmos ones had. If you have any questions about mixing, pouring, transfering etc. feel free to ask.
