Recurring Wax Seperation in Crestworth Astro

I have a vintage orange Crestworth Astro with copper base and cap. I believe it's an MK4. I don't know if it's just the age of the lamp, but the wax keeps separating. There is a lighter disc of wax…Continue

Ferrofluid Lava Lamp

Has anyone tried making a ferrofluid lava lamp? I've done a test sample with a 100ml glass, but I don't know how to adjust the gravity of it. I've used glycerin to adjust it, but I don't think it's…Continue

"Thanks for replying. The wax on mine is actually pretty smooth. The issue is the lighter wax pools to the top into a disc, and I guess this is the part of the wax that helps lift the heavier wax with it. I wish I had a photo, but I recently just…"

"Dont know if this is any help but in my experience old grainy wax becomes smooth again after adding a bit of wax dye I have left over from magma tower goo kits. I dont know what it consists of though."

Recurring Wax Seperation in Crestworth Astro

I have a vintage orange Crestworth Astro with copper base and cap. I believe it's an MK4. I don't know if it's just the age of the lamp, but the wax keeps separating. There is a lighter disc of wax that collects to the top of the lamp, and this significantly disrupts the flow of the heavier wax. I have recombined them many times now, but this time I want a permanent fix. Is there anything I can add to the wax to create a stronger wax bond, or even something in the maser fluid to prevent the…See More

Ferrofluid Lava Lamp

Has anyone tried making a ferrofluid lava lamp? I've done a test sample with a 100ml glass, but I don't know how to adjust the gravity of it. I've used glycerin to adjust it, but I don't think it's dense enough to change the gravity like it does on the lava lamps.See More

Earthquake proofing?

Out of curiosity how has your collection fared during an earthquake of any magnitude? Did your collection survive? How have you Earthquake proofed them? I just started collecting, and I'm genuinely curious on how to prepare my lamps in case a strong earthquake occurs. I don't want to lose my collection. Especially my vintage ones. I live in California, so preparing for one is very important. I'd like to hear some tips and some stories good or bad about your collection after one. See More

The vintage Crestworth I scored on ebay finally came

The only thing that sucks is the cap is broken. They tried to fix it by gluing the screw on cap to the metal cap. I wouldn't have a problem with it being glued if they hadn't glued it on crooked. I just used teflon tape around the thread to prevent any liquids from evaporating. Luckily all the liquids didn't drain from it. It only damped the bubble…
