Yeathat is true the sale of lamps generality are down - rubbish is flooding the market (i.e. lava lite), also its not grate on the Ebay front. - People are getting rid of just junk and not good stuff - there are deals to be had though but they are getting harder to find. - I.e. there are cheap grandas on there but unfortunately pick up only and in bad locations and people arnt seaming buying that many lava lamps from Ebay at the minuet and the sellers don't seam keen on putting stuff up as its likely they wont get a good deal.
As for the Mathmos stuff - yea LED's do sell well so its kinda a cash cow for them and I guess they might reinvest in more lava items when the US market comes though.
I think the sad fact is that 90% of the public wants and likes inexpensive things that light up and change color. Color-changing LED fixtures are a current fad, it seems. And like it or not, the average consumer demands that products be as inexpensive as possible.
Not that I LIKE the flood of cheap LED lights. But I think they're popular because they're cheap and they change color.
