2009.12.15 5 lamps

Here are 5 lamps from my small collection. I’ll give descriptions from left to right.

1. This is one of four identical lamps. Two of the others were used to create the globe for the Wizard lamp. The fourth was gifted to a friend. It is a 20 oz. contemporary model 2103 blue/white manufactured on 03/11/09. Purchased 08/11/09 at Wal-Mart. It is currently boxed up and not on display.
2. This is a 20oz. contemporary model 2125 purple/yellow manufactured on 04/30/09. Purchased 11/17/09 at K-Mart. I disassembled the base and painted the base and cap with 6 coats of Testor’s spray enamel #1251 metallic copper. I saw one on the Lava World site that had this color combo. I already had the lamp with a silver base and cap and decided to paint it to match the one I couldn’t find. Besides, it works so well. The lava flow is fantastic after masking the bulb with a little aluminum foil to slow it down.
3. This is the latest and greatest addition to my collection. It’s one of several classic lamps I am hunting. I purchased it on 12/10/09. I only try to collect the best looking lamps I can find, even if they are old. This one is a Carlisle, manufactured by Lava Simplex in Feb. 1976. I think the model number is 300. It’s an aqua/white combo with brushed gold base. I understand I am the third owner of the lamp. I don’t know if the liquid is faded but there appears to be a good bit of life left in it and I’m enjoying it immensely. It was purchased on eBay from one of our members here on the Goo. His name here is ‘David Kribs’. His eBay name is ‘dmkribs22z3’. What a great guy! I highly recommend you invite him to be your friend and purchase from him on eBay when he sells a lamp. His lamps are as described and I am proud to call him a friend and knowledgable collector.
4. Here’s one that I never expected to see at K-Mart. I purchased it on 08/10/09. It was manufactured on 04/25/09. It’s a 20 oz. model 2127 with a pre-painted purple base and cap. It’s very electric in appearance while operating and sort of hard to look at. LOL! This one was toned down a bit with aluminum foil on the bulb as well. This one is currently boxed up and not on display.
5. Here’s a new pic of the lamp on the left pictured in - 2009.08.12 3 Lava Lites. It should appropriately be called a ‘Frankenlamp’. It was cobbled together from two lamps. The first is a contemporary 20 oz. model 2103 manufactured on 05/11/09 and purchased on 08/05/09 from Wal-Mart. The second was the filtered liquid/lava from my shaken Enchantress from 1987. If you’ve read my posts you’ll remember that I still have one duplicate Enchantress with a relatively rare teal/yellow combo still intact and now boxed up for posterity. Maybe I’ll have a safe place for display in the future. It’s hard to take the death of a truly sweet looking lamp, especially when it’s the first one you bought. Notice the base and cap are not silver. I discovered that Testor’s spray enamel #1642 Lime Gold Metal Flake is a pretty close match to the brushed gold found on classic lamps. I painted it with 6 coats but did not prime the silver base and cap. Priming with white followed by 2-3 coats would have yielded a more authentic color match in my opinion. Live and learn. The bottle cap was crimped back on as tightly as possible but it’s not worthy of travel in the USPS. Does anybody have any leads on where I can get a reasonably priced bottle capper that will work on 20 oz. and 32 oz. globes? I’d surely like to know.
