Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Here they are...finally! I've made an amber one, which you see on the left, and an orange one, which is on the right. I'm really happy with the way both colors turned out! I had already experimented with food color and water, and wrote down all the formulas, but these are the first two actual lamps. :)

Well, what I was going for was "iodine"...kinda deep reddish-brown, but it came out more like beer bottle brown, but with more orange in it. The only color I could find which describes it is amber, but perhaps I should call it "deep amber" or something, because actual amber is more light toned, unless it's Russian amber, or a huge chunk of regular amber.

Actually, this amber one interests me too...for some reason, it's hard for me to tell the color, maybe because it's next to the bright orange one.  Is it like a dark gold shade?  If not, could you describe it a little?

Yes, I'm selling them for $40. :)

And thanks, Da9L!

Thank you! :)

Those were not painted in those images, but I did paint the orange one matte black afterward.

As for the glitter flow, I'm very pleased with that. Unlike other glitter lamps that I have, the jetstream is not narrow and in the middle...it's more like the whole thing is billowing, and rising and falling at the same time. I'll try and get a video of that posted on youtube tonight, so that people can see. We just lost our killer connection when we moved out here...this one is super lame in comparison...but wish me luck!

Don't know which I like better, they're both beautiful.  The colors are so vivid.  Bet they look great when they're lit and working.  Are these bases painted also?  I almost like the silver better.  Does the glitter flow up in the middle and cascade down the sides?

Going to be hard to pick out my first color...

The amber is darker than just about any other glitter lamp I've ever seen. I thought it was TOO dark, but it actually looks great when it's running. :)
