Great! Thanks Tiffany for the link and info on the Centuries. I love 'em too!

Coolest thing just happened! I was watching a movie on cable called "Ruthless People" made in the 80's I think, with Danny DeVito and Bette Midler. Anyway there's a couple scenes where Danny's mistress is hiding out with her boyfriend in his trailer home. While she is on the phone, the camera pans around a bit and there, flowing away right nearby is a Gold Century Starlite just like the one above!! I almost fell off my bed. I must've seen that movie ten times but I never picked out that lamp til now. Of course, I wasn't the goohead I am now!!

yeah tom, there were several small variations in the design of centuries over the years. the were produced from 1965 till 2001.

my favorite type of lava lamp :) i almost scored another one on craigslist for $30 today but they sold it after  responded to their ad :/ I know it's going to be a long time before i see another vintage century on there.

I noticed there are two different Century Starlite bases aside from the color. The difference is with the hole patterns. I think the earlier models have continuous equally spaced vertical rows of three holes across the base and the newer ones have two rows then a space then two more rows and so on. The newer bases also have an aluminum collar the goes around the light bulb inside. I think it is a heat shield. The older bases(at least mine) don't seem to have these. But I see no difference in their performance--both work well.

lol :) i just purchased a second one for a reasonable price. it looks to have a possible 90's globe on it. But hey, its crystal clear and has smooth lava flow.

Nope...the base is the same. The highlights on it hid some of the holes. :p

Awesome! :) Mine from '74 has a different base though...weird. Plus yours is a LOOOOT clearer. LOL! Mine is hazy, sadly.
