GooKit Grande

Really hard to capture the color on this. It's more orange in real life than in this picture. Lava is kinda bubbly, but oh well!

Comment by Erin on February 19, 2013 at 4:28pm: Duly noted Loren. Thanks for the tip. The wax sticks to the globe at the base of this GooKit, but it's not a big deal since I can't see it when the globe is on top of the base.

Comment by Loren on February 19, 2013 at 4:23pm: I have to spin my globes periodically sometimes, to pull the wax back over bare spots in the coil. There have been times when I've fixed the water bubbles thing just by lifting the globe carefully while it's hot, and making sure the coil is in the center. If it's too close to the side, the wax can't cover it properly, and it lets water in. I gently nudge the globe until the coil is back in the center. If not, it actually draws water in, and that's what makes the bubbles. Air bubbles shoot up to the top very quickly in molten wax, while water bubbles flow with the wax. I'm still no expert or anything, but I've made about 50 gookit lamps at this point, and I've seen what a bare spot on a coil can do way too many times. :( On a totally connected coil, you shouldn't see nearly as many bubbles in the wax, and the flow should be greatly improved.

Comment by Brad on February 18, 2013 at 9:27pm: yeah, i meant to say MT, not LL. :) i was in contact with Kim Hotinger on this board, and she stated it was trapped water. i'm just going to keep cycling mine to see if it will clear up.

Comment by Erin on February 18, 2013 at 9:25pm: Do you mean you contacted Magma Tower? They told me the same thing, but there are no real instructions on how to use that screen, so I never used it. I don't think the bubbles are trapped water... but I'm not sure.
