currently the lamps are in my bedroom ... where mostly all my metal trinkets and metal boxes are.. I would say my reluctance to polish them would stem from my OCD and it would trigger it off and then I end up spending weeks polishing all my metal collectibles.

5 times bigger than a dremel.. a car buffer ? lol  Really my Dremel was one of the best investments I have made..I use it for a million different things weekly.

I have a pair of Majestic Zlamps and both were tarnished *patina*, I took apart one lamp and polished the brass and never got around to the other lamp and I liked the polished lamp much better.  I realize that on certain items you want to leave the patina *firearms*  What I am talking about are item that aren't that old or rare so I don't think you would lose any value and the patina will come back.  I just took apart the Zlamps for the first time since I polished one, they had about 2 inches of dust on them and the only way to clean them was to take them apart.  The one need polishing again and the other I never did.  It depends on the item *to me* I hate to permanetly change something older unless I can't stand it or it will look soooo much better and who cares if I lost some perceived value.  I polished my lamp with polishing rough *it was from a kit to polish aluminum* and a big electric high speed *can't think what its called* but its 5 times bigger than a dremel.

with the Dremel I have a bunch of different buffing and polishing attachments.. great for making giving it a real high shine and you can get in all the tight spots..

what is Simichrome ?? The Mothers I use is what we use on our chrome and used on my bike.. I use the one thats like a fiberous batting..pull off a piece and buff away...its great for items time has taken its toll on.. Is the Simi. a liquid..

My blue is a funky color indeed. I've heard Brasso changed their formula Kira. I got some and polished my lamp with it and it didn't look great. Then I used Simichrome and wow, amazing. What will the dremel do?

we have agreed to just give them a once over with some Brasso and then Mothers, hit it with the Dremel and see what it looks like.. Doel totally is in agreement with you Tim.. he says no painting em.

I am lusting for a Blue one like Erins.. on my screen it looks like an old Levi Denim Blues color..

Having looked at Erin's florance art lamps - ploshied looks so much better then black (more vintage) so I think come to a comprise and restore the lamp but polish it insted of paint.

I really need to get out my cave... so black and brass... interesting...

question... were the black ones painted over brass originally... I guess what I mean is  was the base metal brass even if they were painted black ?

Wow Erin.. crazy price..I should check around N.O. and see if anyone does that and how much..As it looks like Doel might win his way. Black seems tempting.. only have to dust or wipe it.. as brass always needs to be polished.... more work....lol

I didn't know that Jonas. Thanks for the tip! I contacted someone about re-plating the brass, but since they couldn't give me a $ I was comfortable with (said a range of $125 - $250), I passed.

By the way, Erin, most of the Florence Art models came in black as well as brass. So if you sanded yours smooth (make sure you take it ALL apart) and paint it black, it'll still look original.
