oh sorry Bohden, I see you posted the link of where to get the converter. Thanks. Is this different than an adapter? Still curious why Mathmos would have said the lava flow is not so great with these things. Do you think they were thinking of adapters? Also do you have to change the bulb?

I think there must be something special about your converter. The people at Mathmos said the flow is not right with them. Maybe there are different kinds? Where did you get yours?

Hey, any answers to your questions yet? A clear/white combination will go with any colour scheme. A yellow liquid/wax combo will give a warming feel to any room, likewise pink/white. I really don't think there would be any issues with converting a Mathmos lamp to US wiring as many of our friends here at Oozing Goo have done similarly. See my friend Bohdan and others for example. I myself have a couple of US lamps which I run on a converter and they're fine.

All the best

Thanks Bohdan and ALPHA CENTAURI. I wanted to get a Mathmos Alpha lamp for my son for Christmas but after emailing back and forth with both Mathmos and Electric Planet, I see there is an electrical issue that has to be addressed. I was initially told that an adapter would be fine but then told by Mathmos themselves that it just never works right with the adapter. I was wondering if there were people here who have altered the wiring for the US? How hard is this to do? I am just worried that after doing this the lava just won't flow as well as it is supposed to. Also is there any chance of a short or overheating or creating a fire after you have tampered with the wiring? It kind of scares me. My son has turquoise walls. It is kind of left over from when he was younger but at 13 he is still ok with it. What colors would look good? He needs more personality to his room but not something overpowering because the room is not large even though it does have fairly high ceilings. Do you have have any suggestions for colors? . Although I think his geeky mind would like a clean glow like white or even light blue, I think he needs some life and warmer color in there more. I was thinking of the traditional violet/red Astro but worried that the overall color of it will be pinkish. The Violet/Orange just looked less special to me but I could be wrong. I think that being able to see the lava is important. He needs time to day dream into it. I have never seen a Violet/Red one in action and not sure if the lava glows enough to be really seen. Does the Red Lava look light because of the bulb? Also is it possible that someone in the US is actually making a lamp that is as good a quality as Mathmos Lamps?

Any thoughts/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
