Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

I've decided to try a minor clean up of the Florence Art Company Astro-lite glitter lamps. On one the brass cap is nice and loose and on the other one is tight and won't come off. Are they supposed to be removable or nice and tight?

How do I go about removing the globe lid from the brass cap?

Does anyone happen to know what can be used to top them off? One is a tad low.

I have some ideas on removing the lid from the brass cap but figure it would just mess it up. SO I'm asking for a better way. Anyone have a spare lid just in case?

It's the yellow one. I'll only need it removed if there's a way to top off the liquid.

There are suspicions about what may be in these, but no one knows for certain. Don't try to top it, just leave it as it is. I don't think these evaporate; it's my belief that they were simply filled a bit more or less during manufacturing.

Makes sense as old as they are. I'll move on to a little polish.

Don't top it off, leave it as is. I've received many of these over the years and ebay sellers try to top it off which ends up ruining it.

What can you use to clean the brass?
