Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Hello !

Glad to finally become a member to this community, seems to be a place with much knowledge..

Which leads me to the reason i come here. As you can see i come from Denmark, so buying one of this beast wasn't exactly cheap. I payed around 60 usd for the lamp it self and another 120 usd just for the shipment.

But when i recieved it it was all cloudy :( First off i contacted lava light directly, which suggested i placed the lamp in a cold room for a few days.. after 3 days with no change i contacted then again, but now they do not respond.

I've attached some pictures, so that you can se what iam talking about. IF lava lite did respond and they suggested that i sent it back it would cost me another 120 usd, so i have no choice but to try and fix this my self.

Do you have any suggestions ? Can i fix it without opening it or do i have to change the water ?

Did you submit this through the Lava Lite website or did you email it to a different contact?  I have never had success trying to get support from their site. They had recommended contacting them through this address:  socialmedia@lavalite.com.  That is how I contacted them and got very prompt service.

Insist for a refund or a replacement globe.  You shouldn't have to "work" to get your lamp running right.

Okay i have just written Lava Lite an email with the following.. Lets see what they will respond with:

Hello Lava Lite Support

I recieved my brand new Lava GRANDE Lamp last week, it is however very cloudy. As i could read on the piece of paper that was with the lamp, this is very normal due to shipping. I followed the suggestions written on the paper, but the lamp which didnt resolve the issue. I contacted you back then and was told to place the lamp in a cold place for a few days, which i did but it is still very cloudy, and have not helped at all.

What should i do? Iam quite dissapointed, because i payed a lot for the lamp, and to get it shipped all they way to Denmark, only to recieve a faulty lamp. How shall we deal with this issue? I can send you pictures of the lamp if you want me too.

Greetings
Daniel

Thanks for the tip Jim.. I will send the same message to that address.. But you are right.. I will wait and see what they will reply to this and if that doesnt work, i want a refund!
I really hope they resolve this for you soon. This isn't right and they should fix it.I know things can happen in shipment but this is pretty bad.I know how hard it is to get one shipped that far, and very expensive.I have been wanting a mathmos but have never gotten a comany willing to ship to the U.S.I am so sorry you have to deal with this, when you buy it new you should get it in good condition no matter where its shipped from or where it is shipped to.
I did that with all 3 of my cloudy grandes, and they look decently clear now, although i havent ran them in quite some time. that also worked with my Mediterranean :)

What you can try is to run this lamp for 10hrs a day for a few weeks it will need to get hot. After a few weeks of running let it sit for a week it should be a little clear after that. If this was he purple/with yellow liquid one then all would have been lost this just may recover over time. Do you have a pic of the cap with its number and model# ?

So not true.

There used to be a big issue with fluidiums clouding in shipping here in the USA when plushpod started to sell them.

I bought an opal fluidium on eBay and it arrived like pea soup.

The american lavaworld globes clouded when shipped also,  but they recovered.

I've had plenty of other mathmos lamps ruined in shipping too.

It depends on the globe, formula, age and how it is shipped.

I don't think the current formula of LL globes recovers, but clouding in shipping happens and to mathmos too.

I have very special instructions and marking I use to prevent it.

Clouding through shipping is NOT normal !

Yet more crap LL is fobbing the customers off with...

Buy Mathmos and be a happy lava lamp collector with no DIY filtering, coil changes etc needed, just take it out the box and admire the crystal clear liquid after it's travelled 100's of miles, plug it in and enjoy ;)

That is all...

thank you very much Antoine been wanting one for a while I will definitely grab one from them as soon as I can :) its nice to see someone shipping to here.
As the owner of a cloudy fluidium I am backing what weebo is saying. Everyone should hold out on buying lava lite stuff until the summer. I have already noticed a huge improvement in the batches made in december, so if you buy a lamp make sure it was made in december 2010 or later.
Da9l could you post the number on the lamps cap?

Your lamp was made in september when they were just starting to clear out all of their bad stock. I have a purple/yellow grande made at the same time and it cleared up most of the way but not completely. You will need to get a replacement. What I suggest is contacting lava lite on a Monday, follow up by Wednesday if you don't get a reply, if they still don't reply follow up again on friday. Do this every week until they send a replacement. Always try to be polite because they will ignore hateful or angry emails. You can also try to call their phone number.

I will try that thanks. They just replied an hour ago to the mail i send them yesterday, asking where i bought the lamp.

Where did you buy it? If you got it from a reseller they will tell you to try to get them to send a replacement. You need to make sure to get a more recent model.

I bought it from a seller on ebay: http://myworld.ebay.com/kruegertruevalue/

I find it a little wierd that they clear out bad stock by selling the lamps to customers rather than just through them out. I know its money out of the window for them, but on the other hand, this way they will get lot of bad reputation.

Maybe i should send them the pictures i took including the one with the cap, so they can see this is one of their bad models
