Removing Dents

What is the best way to remove dents from a lamp base so that it is done safely and looks good? I got a wizard that was new and unused, but Fedex mashed the box and put a big dent and several smaller dents in the base. At least the globe survived intact. Anyone have any expertise that is willing to share? Thanks.

Attached are pics of the dents. The base is black. I did file a claim....Just got the check today. I lucked into it with a low "buy it now" on ebay, but unfortunately the claim only gave me my money back. It won't cover the going price of the used ones I've seen on ebay. :-( Now I just have to find another pristine black wizard base with glitter globe color I want (blue, green, purple, maybe turquoise). ;-) But I don't want the other base to go to waste either. Ultimately, I want to get several black wizards with different glitter colors.

Do you mean a wooden round "dowel" (is end rounded or cut off flat)? Or do you really mean "trowel"? How do you use it (roll it back and forth or use end to push dented area?) and what do you have behind/under the lamp for resistance? I would hate to damage the base any more than it is. Thanks.

Grrrr!!! It was such a nice looking base before Fedex!!! I'll give it a try anyways. Good learning experience, if nothing else.

If it does chip, have you found a good color match paint for the black wizard finish? For that matter do you know a good color match paint for both the gold and black centuries? I'm getting 2 silver caps that I will need to paint to match.
