1. Can i use my MSR Ceramic filter?
2. Could i refill it with Glycerine?

Hi Simon,
Same as...I got a purple metallic of ebay three weeks ago and its very cloudy too. It was listed as a clear/purple astrolamp, a combo I've been after for a while now to complete my astro rainbow. If I had known it was metalliic I would'nt have touched it as I know from postings on here they have a tendancy to cloud. I'm so pee'd off I've put it in my outhouse and trying to forget about it in the vague hope it will clear itself, but not getting my hopes up too high. Lets hope someone on here can give some advice, c'mon guys help us out here !
I have heard that if you refill it with fog fluid only (i asume medeum denesty) it works fine - fog fluid is made up of glyicrine and DI water.
If you are going to use this methord then i advise to keep the original water if it dosent work then you can use the original water and just filter it.
If you want some fog juce i have about a gallon of it :).
well, the problem is that I was missing one ingrediant to figure the fluid. If you use msr only filter half of it, otherwise the flow will be very thin and takes forever to get flowing but half should be ok. The metallics are flowing on 85% glycerin 15% water BUT the flow does not look the same, rather like the glitterball flow, very blobby, I assume that surfactant could fix this but I couldnt get my hands on proper surf....the stuff in the goo kits could work, but thats all the info I can give you...and they DON't clear up by just sitting around.
Hope This is helpful for you
Tim and Arne...thanks for the advice, I will go for the filtering option when I get a msr filter, would much rather a runny flow than boring blobby anytime.
Pete.
85% glycerin 15% waterThat sounds like high denesty fog fluid to me - that could work but it would probably need some surf added to it.
maybe someone who has a gookit ergo also surfactant could try this...maybe i'll buy one someday, on the other hand the only metallic I have left from about 20 is a red astro...and its clear...we'll seebtw you can top em off with water but not more than 40ml or it will kill the flow....less is best!
I got the same problem. I have a metallic red Astro and I topped it of with water. Now the flow is killed. It used to be very thick and blob like unlike other lavalamps I have. I liked it very much and now I want to get it back. lol
So did I read this correctly that I would need to refill my metallic red with a mixture of 85 percent glycerine and 15 percent water? Distilled water?
Would be really grateful for any help.
Thanks :)
you still need surfactant. it does flow this way, but not nicely.
Thanks Arne for answering. I am sorry but I don't understand your answers though. It's a bit cryptic. Did you figure out what formula to use with the metallic ones or are you still experimenting?
I topped mine of with water, (less than 40ml) but it didn't work. The lava rises exactly to the point where I topped it off and stops there.
Now I am thinking of completely refilling it to get its old flow back. But I don't wanna mess it up even more. As far as I understood this thread, 85 percent Glycerine and 15 percent of water should make it work (with a blobby flow).I liked the original "blob-like" flow, which was unlike the other lava lamps. Does this mean I can achieve that old flow with the 85Glycerine/15Water solution without adding surfactant?
Sorry for asking these stupid questions. I am new to this and I really would love to make this work. :)
Thanks
Arne,
did you mean I could still make the flow of the lamp work now (without exchanging the whole masterfluid) by just adding surfactant to the mix? If so, how much would I need to add and where can I get surfactant? :) Sorry again, this is all very new to me.
Thanks so much!
