Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

I am almost done with a GooKit Grande I'm making for a fellow OG-er. I don't necessarily want to put the metal cap back on (but will include) it. I haven't sealed one of these back up yet.

Of course, I'd do the obligatory "this end up" stuff and super pack with foam, peanuts, tshirts, etc. But I really really really really want to make sure this arrives unscathed.

Anyone shipped one of these? Advice would be much appreciated!

The best way to pack these are using the original box, then box that box up with another box lol.
I do not have the original box. I'm a moron for throwing out TWO of them.
ugh those foam inserts work great (about the only thing LL did right) Well I've shipped giants out using a huge ass box with a insane amount of packing peanuts,  All-in-all a pain in the ass without the original box.

I've got a box that's around the same size. And TONS of packing material (I hoard it when I get lava lamps in the mail).

Why oh why did I throw them out... I guess I never though I'd SHIP a Grande!

If you have a box that it will fit in just use a lot of bubble wrap. Heavy items shift when packed in foam peanuts and will lead to problems. Cut some cardboard squares that will fit into the box so the top and bottom is double thickness  Tape up every seam on the box twice so they wont open when you pack it tight.  I shipped one years ago with the original box but still packed it in another box.

The post office may not ship a box that large, they have a length width height calculation they use so you might have to use UPS.

Thanks for the advice Lamp. :) I have tons of bubble wrap, peanuts, tape and styrofoam.

Wish me luck! I'm going to attempt to ship Monday.

If you dont want to cap the lamp pour the water into soda bottles. You dont even really need to send the water because all he has to do is go buy a couple gallons of water and pour it in with the surfactant. I would suggest you use cardboard corner braces so the box cant be crushed. Oh and dont use packing peanuts, the lamp will eventually reach the bottom of the box. Its like how prospectors pan for gold, the heavy gold chunks sink to the bottom when shaken.
Duly noted on the packing peanuts. I do intend to ship the lamp with the liquid in it. It's already in, working and colored. I will see if I still have those cardboard corner braces you sent me Autumn.
