I just got my lava lamp.yesterday.However,I got it not by ordering online, but by searching in shops. So I got one with what supposed to be a clear one with blue wax. However,It was all cloudy. The lamp runs well, but since it's cloudy,I can't see the ooze clearly.
I saw some recapper and some lamps, and most of them uses the usual bottle caps (Which you srew them on).My lava lamp have a steel cap like this:

I guess I can get rid of it,but I'm sure I can't put it back on.
And since it seems that is was vacuum sealed,Is the bottle safe to open ?
(I'm sure it's quite safe but i still wonder why people screaming all over the internet not to touch it)
Any help will be appreciated !

It is safe to replace caps on lamps - I think others on the net say not to open it as this voides the warrenty and that they might not know how to get it back on and what to do etc.
Check out this section of the lava libeary to replace a crimp cap http://oozinggoo.ning.com/page/replace-bottle-cap
but if it's a crimp cap,it can't be repaired, right?Do you need to keep the bottle tight-sealed (no air inside) ?or can you just put another cap (or cork) over it?

The crimp cap can be repaired if you remove it carefully and then use some pliers to crimp it back on.
The bottle doesn't need to be vacuum sealed (and it isn't anyway) so if you cant re-seal it using the original cap then yea another cap, cork or something else will work fine.
I've been kind of wondering about this myself... Besides getting your replacement cap ON, what do you use for a seal, such that the water inside doesn't gradually leak/evaporate out?
I was thinking of procuring something like this to see how well it would work for sealing up a lamp. Anyone know how tetrachloroethylene responds to neoprene rubber?
if you are able to re-use your cap and cap it hot, many lamps will suck the seal back down when they cool, therefore resealing themself
Ok.Just keep it sealed.I think I'm getting some kind of rubber cork, but I'll try to reuse the crimp first.
Anyone ever tried to recap the crimp cap?
Yes, several people have and have succeeded there is a thread on it here : http://oozinggoo.ning.com/forum/topics/re-sealing-bottle-cap-with-a...
