Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

You've got to be kidding about this! A Regency in fair shape is listed on eBay and it has 2 bids on it so far. The current price is $514.99 with 4 days to go. I bought one of these with the original box last October for substantially less. I realize they are not a common lamp, but you do see several listed during the course of a year. I hope whoever gets it enjoys it, but I say a fool and their money are soon parted.

There are 2 guys that just seem to have to have every rare lamp these days. They both have a lot of money to spend and they are competing against each other. If one of them would have started collecting much earlier the prices wouldnt be so high right now.

There have been several lamps lately that have been going for HUNDREDS of dollars more than they usually do. You can see other crazy past lamp prices here: http://oozinggoo.ning.com/forum/topics/contest-who-can-find-the-most

It's insane what these two are paying for lamps right now. They'll burn out eventually.

I saw this listing too and thought the same, but wasn't sure about posting active listings.

Well, almost no one here can afford it, so I say post away. :)

Over a grand for the Continental is beyond insane. But it IS a good example of how the bottle was one made for liquor (cheap wine, I think, think MD 20/20) and bought from the manufacturer. It was probably a cost-cut on the bottle which allowed them to put the saved money into designing a lamp around said bottle. Same for the square Mystique, which also used a liquor bottle. Some actually have "LIQUOR BOTTLE" cast into the glass on the bottom.

No kidding.. Ive forgotten my name drunk on MD 20/20

As long as these two are on the hunt... most of us dont stand a chance...  I always also try to look at my lamps as an investment.. with the thought that should I ever need to I can at least make most of my money if not all back on them...
and try to refrain from letting my emotions greatly over ride their value and over pay.. Dont know what it is.. but these bids give me a feeling of something aint right.. or something more going on..

For those with a large amount of disposable income, the prize is in the ownership.

I've overpaid for a few lamps, and others I got at a great deal.

Until you own these lamps, you can only judge so much.

It took me so long to acquire two gemlite and lava continentals. I paid quite the amount for each.  (although not that much as the prior auction).

The regency is a prize to behold.

I can still remember the days of battling with plastic_antique for prized lamps.

*EDIT* Ughhh. the wax is awful on that one! I would skip it! But if I were hard pressed and on the hunt... who knows.

True Weebo. We seem to forget not everyone is on a fixed income. If money were no object for me I would probably overpay for certain lamps as well. I highly doubt those people are "holding back" from buying a lamp so as not to drive up the prices for the little people. That's just reality.

This goes beyond overpaying. This is a pissing contest, the likes of which I haven't seen before. This isn't a battle. It's two people who are INSANE.

hahahaha you should have been here back in the day of KNGBIDDER, Plastic_antique and I.

Ok, the prices weren't that high.. but it sure shows you how the current bidders desire these particular lamps!

LOL>you two crack me up.... if I had that kind of money I am not positive about myself when it comes to certain lamps..    Doel and I now watch these lamps go with awe .. making us choke on our smoke in odd amusement....

.Its the factory manager for L.L in China... he is buying up all the good lamps in hope we will buy photo shopped gems and thus.. LL .. wont return to the states... its a conspiracy i tell ya..a conspiracy..\

.

PS.. for those of you whom dont know me well enough... I AM JOKING>>> So don't get yer panties in a bunch..
