Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

The link to the light bulb chart doesn't work for me, but I was wondering if there is a list somewhere about what bulbs people have luck with in which lamps?  I think my house is too cool for my lamps...I get giant globs that never really do anything but rise and fall back down.  They never separate.

I think my 32 oz gets too hot with a 40 watt, but my 52 doesn't seem to get hot enough with the same bulb.  Just looking for alternatives.

Here is the link to the light bulb table: http://oozinggoo.ning.com/page/light-bulb-table

What kind of lamps do you have? What is the temp of your house? If you have 2003+ Lava Lites, they are known for giant balls of boring-ness.

Thanks, Erin, but the link doesn't work for me.  I get this message:

Our apologies

As far as what lamps I have, all but one are newer Chinese made models.  My mid 90's lamp does great, but these new ones do nothing.  Or, they do something then quit.  Or they do nothing for a while, do something for a few minutes, then do nothing again.  I took one lamp to work and it does better there than in my house...which is kept around 71 or 72 degrees.

Ah, I got it. It was set to view by Admins only. It's been changed. You should be able to see it now. :)

Yes, the 2003+ Lava Lites were made in China (and still are, though production is said to move back to the US in 2013) and the flow is pretty awful. Sometimes they'll quit working all together. So, it's not your fault! They are pretty crappy lamps all around and the behaviour you're talking about them doing is common. My advice? Don't buy any more of the newer stuff. It's mostly a crap-shoot.

If you plan on getting more lava lamps, try "vintage", pre-2002 lamps on eBay or garage sales. Or, if you have a lot of money, you can swing for a Mathmos.

Thanks for fixing the link and I think you're right...I will look for vintage lamps.  Makes me want to return my Grande.  Or, I could GooKit it.  :)  Thanks again.

Vintage are wayyyyyy better. :) If you're within 30 days of your Grande purchase and you CAN return it, I would!
