PERC substitute and another advice

Hi and hello everyone.

I'm into building a homemade Lava Lamp.
I have a beautiful Highland Park 750ml Whiskey bottle for it.

1.
I have found most of the ingredients but looking for something less toxic and carcinogenic than PERC..
Do you have any idea? 

2. 
Do you have an idea for the basis? Is PVC pipe can really take the hit? I'm not sure it looks good anyway...

I am sure there is things out there which are less toxic then PERC - this was commenly used in older lamps but now they are safer so PERC is probably not used but what it is we are not too sure.

Base wize my advice would be to start of using a 32oz or 52oz standerd lamp base and painting it if you want it to blend in more - this is a lot easer then making a base from scratch.
