Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

hi guys

i have a slow moving glitter vase for a lunar, its a bit plain so i was thinking of putting something on the base to give it a bit of color, like the living jewel, has anyone any ideas what i can paint on the bottom of the vase to give me this effect

Some glass paint would be a good idea - I have used this stuff before (not for lava lamps yet) http://www.greatart.co.uk/VITREA160-GLOSS-glass-painting-mosaics.ht...

However it needs baking on at 160 degrees so I don't know how practictal that would be for a lunar bottle.

Another option is to use gel, or dichroic filters check out www.leefilters.com dichroic filters are made of glass and will last for ever but are expensive. Gel is cheap but it will burn out and you will have to clean up the globe and replace it when it burns out.

About this paint: "Vitrea 160", if it needs to be baked at 160°C, no need to pu it in oven, as I guess it will be baked by the lamp in the base anyway. but will it resist to the lamp temperature?

I wonder how many degrees under the globe of a lavalamp?

Anyone knows?

cheaper option and easily removed is permant marker pens, you may need to do a few coats, and if you get board it can be removed easily in hot soapy water and one of the sponge things with the ruff green top :-)

Good tip!

Does it stay on a long time or fade in short time?

well it doesnt tend to burn off and if it gets light then all you have to do is another coat with the pens, ive been doing it for years and seems to work fine,  the company staedtler do markers "lumocolour" these seem to give a nice deep colour.
