Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Hi,

I'm not sure what liquid is in a glitterbaby (glycerin, or propylene glycol like glitterlite?) but I want to change its color.

What dye is good to use?

Food coloring, or candle dye, or else?

(I tried gookit dye with propylene glycol: it doesn't work).

Thanks.

For the mathmos glitterbabys food dye works great. just dont try purple, there doesnt seem to be a good purple due that doesnt look like crap...mixing red and blue also doesnt work. good luck!
the gookit stuff should work for living jewels as they dissolve the wax and as far as I know the gookit dye is just heavy pigmented wax

Thanks Arne.

If anyone interested, I think Glitterbaby is made with propylene glycol + something else (it smells a little like alcool).

While pourring the content of the glitterbaby into a jet bottle, I added 1cm of propylene glycol to raise the level to the cap and the lamp works perfectly.

(I didn't dye it yet, not sure I will)
