Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

It has been a while since I posted any goodies like this, but I have not been cast away from the grace of Lava Lite I assure you. Here is their newest product that will be coming to stores soon.

I like the colored glass idea, but the crazy colored base just doesn't appeal to me.

The colored glass could be interesting, but what I'd really like to see them do is take some of the 20oz colors and make them in 32oz, 52oz, and 250oz. (Neon blue could make an amazing Grande.) It would also be great to see them bring back something like the Century base. The Aristocrat style bases always seemed too thin to me.

I would really love a larger neon blue and watermelon, that is for certain.  I keep contemplating making one from smaller lamps, but that ends up costing so much.

Honestly this rainbow lamp is pretty ugly. I dont think I'll buy it unless its on the clearance shelf. LL needs a better design team. Bases like elmo and cookie monster are just a awful ideas and it seems that they brain stormed that idea for about10 seconds... And this rainbow lamp? why is there tile lines on it? They have this ability to use shrink wrapped designs I would figure they'd come up with something better. As far as I see it they still have a loooong way to go.

I am a moderator here, that is all. Dale is the CEO of Lava Lite. I post new products and answer questions for him on oozinggoo. Manufacturing is expected to be brought back sometime this year.

Autumn, excuse my ignorance since I'm fairly new here.  But who are you and Dale in the LL world?

Is LL really going to consider a rebuilding of LL's (at least some models) in the USA?

Thanks,

Critter

While I prefer the iconic shape over most other competitor's products I have to say I think it's how these lamps look that hold the company back more than anything. Non-Lava lovers will always comment,

"how retro!"

"groovey, duuude"

"so 60s/70s....etc etc"

I think the concept as a whole is seen as "tired" and "passe". New shapes, better colors, more features and options could all help to drag lava lamps into the "here and now" and reintroduce the concept to a whole new generation. Right now though most people I know view lava lamps as such

A hold over of a bygone era and primarily for stoners

The ante should be upped beyond just color swaps and sizes if they want to compete with the whole array of inexpensive trip toys and affordable light shows that are out there.

The whole modding community here is a crucible of ideas that all makers of these lamps should be tapping into. Here is a group of consumers outperforming the "professionals" and leaving the pros in the dust.

just my 2 cents

Can't decide if I like this lamp... hmmm

It will be sold in spencers sometime around may to april.

A direct line to Dale is not possible. However I am able to forward important information. Other than the contact information on Lava Lite's website I cannot give out email addresses or phone numbers.

Oh thanks!  I was wondering who the CEO of LL is....just last night.  Is there a way to contact him via email or post?  I wanted to give some feedback and a suggestion.

Thanks so much for the quick reply!!!

Actually Lava Lite's shape is more positively viewed than you might think. When people think "lava lamp" they think of the classic shape. The shape is not holding them back at all. The photo below is of a lava lamp in the US Patent and Trade office. The patent itself protects Lava Lite from competitors using their shape. And guess what? Competitors want to use their shape. Why? Because it is well known and makes money. Coca cola's signature is not seen as tired and passe, neither are McDonalds golden arches.

Well, Al said it all way better than I ever could have.  I agree with every single thing he said, 100%.

The competitors MAY have in the past wanted to emulate the shape to create consumer confusion more than anything not because consumers DEMAND the shape.

The main reason I don't have more lava lamps is because there isn't a whole lot of variation or innovation. Once I get a collusus my collection will be done and I won't see much more point in buying more of the same shape and colors. I like lava lite brand because they are the most accessible and the other attempts other companies make at emulating the iconic style are lame IMO.

I'm looking for new novelty, not just minor variations of a classic forumla which is why I'm far more excited for my and others' experimentations in modding than the "new flavor of the month"
