Found oozinggoo.com when I was looking for ways to repair the Grande I picked up at CostCo a few years ago. It's one of the Chinese made ones that has gone extremely cloudy and ceased to flow (going to try replacing the fluid one of these weekends).
It was here that I found out about really big Lava lamps. I was bowled over by videos of the Colossus lamps and really want to see if I could get one, I couldn't find them available anywhere so I wrote LavaLite. I wanted to let this group know what I got this from Lava Lite today:
We have a special promo on the Colossus for serious buyers. This will be the last time the Colossus will be seen.
Please see attached promo sheet with pricing included.
If you are interested please contact on my direct line at 630-496-6663.

Sadly these prices are outside of my discretionary funds, even though they include shipping. I post it in hopes that someone here may be interested.

Thanks Gwen...does the sunlight affect the goo or just water? About how long?

Jethro- to fade, just put it in bright sunlight, will fade it quite well
FUN STUFF all of it! As a chemist and engineer I've had a career is phase change science, specifically Super-critical fluids. The colossus would make an excellent thesis topic. Wish I had one when I was teaching to keep the kids interested.
It would be great to start a Lava Lounge bar complete with mimic cocktails...we could discuss where in the universe has a natural lava lamp phenomena.

I agree...I'm just glad that there is a fix for this problem. Even if I had to do this every time I ran my lamp, which I haven't had to do so far, I wouldn't care. And I agree with Autumn...I don't think these are overheating. These lamps are large and complex...one of the things which gives them such amazing flow. Sometimes they come away from the coil in places, and I think they are meant to...but sometimes the coil is bare in all the wrong places, and the flow gets stuck. I'm not sure why all lamps aren't doing this, however...or why some are doing it more than others. I have run my lamp 7 times now, and gotten stuck flow 3 times (and fixed it twice :p) That's less than half bad runs, and those were fixed. I am definitely NOT trading this lamp in, because knowing me I'll get an even worse replacement. LOL! I STILL have very, very bubbly lava, but when it gets going really well it's not so bad. All in all, I love this thing. Like Jim, my colossus color combo was the same as my first lava lamp, so it's special to me...I don't want another color, at least for this one. ...As if I could ever get two.
Thanks gwen, I am also loooking for pics showing how it looks with a red bulb as well

I plan on reading through all 53 pages of this thread later to see how everybody has been enjoying their Colossi.
Just curious........anybody know WHY these were discontinued?.....where these last 70 came from?........why they decided to sell them off suddenly this year?........are they REALLY never going to be made again?..........when was the last time they were readily available?.........
sorry if these questions have already been answered........i'll read everything later & try to catch up!
Why don't people like the blue/yellow?
My girlfriend GROANED when I told her the color of the Colossus I just bought!!! :(
They were discontinued because of the bulb not being available, they decided to use larger bulbs. I think they were last sold in 2010. And I agree with Critter, I think Lava Lite will come up with another huge lamp, maybe just with a different name. Lava Lite was in a bad place with manufacturing and quality a few years ago and they are actually just in the first stages of recovering their credibility. They are putting out some very good lamps now so it seems they are on the road to recovery. I wonder if the name "Colossus" in not looked on as marketable now to the masses. So it might be as simple as a name change since quality has been improved. Just my thoughts though.
