Come on!

They must be kidding.

By the way, they're doing something cool for their 50th, but you won't be able to buy it:

I believe they released the heritage line for the 50th as well

I know.

That's so lame.

They had the opportunity to release a fantastic lamp for the 50th (like a new designed Lunar or something else exceptional) but no they release a limited edition of a normal Astro, who just looks like someone use a lousy gold spray paint on it :-(

On the other side, I'm curious so see pictures of the 200l lava lamp they're going to make.

A colossus will look like a dwarf beside it :-)

The monster kinda already dose :-).... This will make it look extra dwarfish !!! U never know..... they mite be holding back a extra special lamp.... We can hope

What a nice lamp !! I'm joking,it look very cheap. Is that all they can do for celebrating 50 years. I am very disappointed.

It's nice, but nothing exceptional. I swear, we have two lava companies and both of them need a new marketing person!

A gold glitter ball globe would have been a nice touch.

i think its a Astro due to the fact the first lamp was a Astro, its gold anodised and not spray painted according to the write up, personaly i feel its a nice touch with the old adverts and pics on the box and celebrates the "Astro's" birthday nicely,

I think it's a lovely touch, nice pic too Johnny. There's nothing more anyone could want other than some lave flowing and some vinyl playing. Poor old Christine though, having to sign 500 certificates!

Having just seen the BBC article on Mathmos I have to retract the 'old' comment above.

I know, I wrote i looks like someone use a lousy gold spray paint on it.

It does look very cheap, and even if it were real gold plated, it would still be a lame way to celebratre a 50th birthday.

Mathmos should get some designers to create new lamps; not just new color combos.

That was the perfect timing to create a new lamp in limited edition, something that everybody will remember and talk about, not another astro...

I know what ya mean, a new lamp design, i think if the bottle was etched it would swing it for me to buy one just to put near my 63 astro

I don't think this lamp will look cheap with the anodized finish, but if they were going to release a copper colored Astro, couldn't they have produced a limited run of actual copper Astros?
