50th Anniversary Lamps

So, anyone got the goods on what LW will be putting out for their 50th anniversary?  I did hear (from them) that whatever it is will be available in June.  I also heard that they are phasing out the Accent lamps (hurray!).

Mathmos's 50th Astro was pretty nice really as they did go with a theme to mark the golden anniversary - 50 years..no compromise, it was gold with a sash and golden 50 on the glass so you knew what you were getting plus the packaging had a real retro feel to it. I think they made a very good effort.

I'd like a blue white grande, but I'd love it with the 90s USA formula. I agree it is very unlikely, but just a small run of american filled grandes would not be too big of a risk. I think the collectors would really go for it. I think the 12 and 20 ozers should be made in China because they aren't really for collectors, but for people who want a cheap, small lava lamp. Come on Lava Lite!

I don't think they will do a Grande for the 50th.  I think the best we can expect is a Century style.  Hopefully they have a worthy design but time will tell.

 I can see them getting real creative and putting 49+1 on the base instead of a 50. Of course they could always throw a curve ball and go with 51-1 too. How cool would that be ?

If they don't do a new Grande then I won't be buying anything. LL's smaller lamps are way to disappointing!

I just don't think there is a big enough market for a Grande for the 50th, unless they do a range of sizes.  Honestly I'm not expecting much :(

Sadly, I really do think that, to buyers in the current market-- and I mean the buyers who make up the lion's share of sales-- quality flow is unimportant. The first quality they look for, above all others, is low price. Beyond that, it's a lava lamp. It lights up, it bubbles a bit, it's a lava lamp. That's all they know and all they care to know. Quits working? It was cheap, toss it and buy another.

The age has passed when these were seen as elegant home accessories. They're now nothing but cheap novelties. HOWEVER-- I nonetheless think LL would make some some notable money if they made a range of lamps aimed at collectors and at commercial spaces which desire a top-notch lamp.

Jonas, I agree.  I think a lot of us would buy quality lamps, even if they cost a lot more. 

I'm not interested in LED lamps, accent lamps, or anything that requires me to be a chemist to change out the globe.
