Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Hello all.

I just picked up a lamp from someone who said they bought it back '97. Is there any means of identifying this lamp? I asked him if he even opened it and he said no.

Thank you all!!!

Our office stays around 70-73 degrees. Hmm I see it moving with the towel covering it.

You might get flow, but the proper bulb will do wonders. I own 2 Giants myself and no grande compares. Though the 50th gets close! Definitely stock up on the 100 watt R20s. It's good to order 2 at a time because you can't just grab them at Lowes or Home Depot anymore. I ran into a bunch of them at a lighting store for $2 a piece. I bought 10 or so, just to have them around. Great find on the silver Giant, some had plastic silver caps in the beginning but later they went to metal. You can tell they are Giants though because of the shine the aluminum gives off vs the duller grande finish.
Thanks for the info! I nabbed me a 50th just arrived today :)
May I have your opinion on the heritage grandes?
Will this work OK? Ordered one.

Thanks again!

That is the correct bulb. They sell them on LAVA's website too for $5.99 each.

I can not comment personally on the Heritage Grandes as I do not own any, but fellow collectors who own them have had nothing but good things to say.

Thanks! I have to wait a month until I fire it up...I have to stagger the lamps I bring home or my wife will have the talk...

Update roughly six hour later... you think it will break up? ?

Eventually.  At least it's not too hot!

How would that look?

The fourth lamp, lol.  Actually none of my grandes has gone past the "slightly too warm" stage, even after being on for more than 12 hours.

So lava column and fat stump aren't too warm... Well let's see when I get back to work tomorrow. I left it on. Nice to make the mac pay that electric bill
It is a little cloudy I think it needs to run

It's moving! This is how it looked this morning. Later in the day it started forming multiple columns and some small snake globs. I turned Big Bertha off for the night before leaving for a break. Hopefully those bubbles at the top go away with some cycles
