Mk 0 Crestworth Astro?

Hi fellow gooers,

Did anyone else see the recent eBay auction for the really early copper Crestworth Astro? This example was exceptionally early and featured the Mk1 open two-piece base which was painited inside and the very earliest in-line switch. The odd thing apart from the completely ancient and shot original liquid was the very shallow copper cap, much more shallow than even the Mk 1 Astro. Any Crestworth experts on here know about this lamp. It went for a whopping £310 at the auction end. Maybe this exact model was a pre-production model with that very unusual cap. Did anyone here win it?

i saw it, outbid as well, it must be one the first productions with that cap, short while ago another base with the white inner was on ebay but with a standard ( mk 1 ) cap

I was also keeping an eye on it, what an amazing lamp!

I know someone who owns another very similar. They contain an oil that is liquid at room temperature, rather than a solid wax used in the later Astros. As far as I know the seal on the neck of the bottle is bolted together and the copper cap is crimped around it, never designed to be opened so whoever won it might have a hard time refilling it.

Yes, I was watching that auction. Unfortunately, the seller wouldn't ship outside the UK, so I was unable to bid on it. This is the first time I've ever seen an Astro lamp that matches the original patent design. I always hoped that one would pop up one day. Congratulations to whoever purchased it - truly, a historical Crestworth Astro lamp. I wonder if this lamp was ever offered for sale to the public, or if it was a pre-production design?

Thank you. That's good to know. Unfortunately, in this case, the seller was insistent that he wouldn't consider using a third party shipper.

Wow! It really does match the patent. Must have been a pre-production patent model, never available for sale to the public. I should have bid more but it shot up from £148 to £360 the next bid. Astonishing stuff but when will the next one turn up? Is there a next one?
