Hi! I'm new to this group, but recently got a working fiber optic lamp, and found that there is no easy way to replace the optic fiber spray for the top. I had one back in the mid 70s and the fibers were plastic (as I recall - it was a long time ago and maybe I'm not remembering it right).
The lamp I just got is a Fantasia alpha 1050.
I talked to someone who used to make the glass sprays and he said it was really hard to trim them and he stopped making them. But I've wondered if anyone has tried glass-grinders that are used in stained-glass work. They are used with water around the grinding wheel, so it seems like if you had some strands held together (like a pony-tail held together on the end) the end could be shaped with a glass grinder. Does that sound to anyone else like it would work? I've never tried anything like that and don't know if the fibers are even available anymore, but I used to make stained-glass windows so I'm familiar with that equipment.
If anyone knows where I could find a spray of fibers that would work with this lamp, I would really appreciate that information! Even plastic is fine with me, but I tried buying some of the cheap-o ones on eBay and they don't fit.
Thanks for letting me join the group! I've been a fan of lava lamps, fiber lamps and other varieties of that sort of thing for many years. I'm happy to know there are others who also still love these!

Well fitment is a matter of will and ingenuity
SImply add clear tape of heat shrink tubing around the base of the spray until the diameter fits properly
I have one of those Fantasias, Its not a big spray but enjoyable
There is a member from here in Germany that makes sprays as well as his own lamps.

And if anyone ever comes across a Fantasia Cosmos 2 in minty shape, I'll sell my soul for one
Thanks for the link and info! So, with your Fantasia lamp, did you make a spray for it or was the original intact? I will try using the tubing around the base of the plastic one I ordered. It seems like the one I had years ago had filaments that were finer, and there was more to it so they fanned out very nicely. If possible I'd like to find a way to make one - partly to save on cost and partly because I love to make things myself. But if I can't do it, I'm glad to have the contact info for the guy in Germany.

I think the Cosmos 2 was a custom lamp created by one of the members here.
