That is what a blacklight does to the color of a lava lamp. I have several giants and fading is an issue over the years the sunlight will take a tole on the color of the fluid I cover my giants with a towel during the day when not in use. You don.t want to see 2 different shades of your favorite purple yellow giants. There are no black base grandes so they may be actual giants. The stopper is on a giant and a cap will be on the grande And honestly the red clear may be worth 300.00 if it is in prestine condition the yellow is defintiely the result of extensive exposure. Sorry I am just a sceptic but I have seen other clear yellows that were actually faded blue yellows

I see both of them have caps. You are correct, never seen a Grande with a black base/cap. What do you mean by giants? Colossus? Or was there a discontinued line of lamps between a grande and colossus?
The yellow is definitely a faded lamp and the red looks like the one Doc What sold a few months ago. Great lamp.
Kris,
The Giant was 27 inch, came in silver and black and USA made when LW was still a manufacturer. The Grande is 27 inches and China made. The original China made Grandes's were good lamps when LW still had rights to their original goo formula and some level of manufacturing control. When those were lost LW became a distributor and the Grandes, (all their lamps), became crapola.

So basically, when it was USA made it was called a "Giant" and came in two color flavors for the base/cap? When it became China made, it was renamed the "Grande" and only came in one color for the base/cap?
I do have a question though... how does a company that owns the goo formula lose rights to it? I must be missing something there. Who owns the rights then if they don't fully?
Hello, again the caps I was referring to are under the decorative cap and hold the fluid in. Basically the grande is a copy of the giant frome yesteryear The "stopper" as I call it is black and made of plastic and rubber on the older ones and the grandes of course have the bottle cap which is pressed on at the factory under the decorative cap that matches the base.
