My nan gave me her lava lamp a couple of days ago that she hasn't used for a while. I had it on for a few hours today and Im really happy with it. The wax flows nicely and the liquid is pretty clear.
The only problem with it is, smears of dried wax all over the inside of the globe (I'm guessing thats what it is anyway), I was wondering if theres anyway of fixing this?
Just gave the lamp a good clean and replaced the ancient bulb, so hopefully it will sort itself out. I was doing a bit of research today on flowoflava.com, this lamp appears to be a 1960's original astro, second design.
@ UltraFixtion. Yeah I was thinking about replacing the globe too. Can't decide which colour tho!
Ill take a look through this awesome forum later to find out how to filter the liquid.
Yeah my nan is lovely, I actually went to old street and bought an astro baby on monday, later on that day I dropped by my nans and mentioned the lamp, before I left to go home she said "my astro is in the dining room if you want it" Didnt realise how old and rare it was till you guys said so and after looking on flowoflava, Would be nice to filter the liquid so she can see it working like it used to.
Couple more things id like to ask you guys if you don't mind, first. Is it okay to use a clear 40 watt bulb in the astro? The old bulb was white, could only find a clear one today. Second, I remember reading somewhere that old lamps have a liquid wax, just wanted to know if this lamp has, if so do I filter it in the same way as a lamp with solid wax?
I don't, But I will upload some for ya later on when the lamp cools. I remember her saying it was about 40 years ago, i'll ask her next time I see her where she got it. Hopefully she will remember.
