"Normaly: More Surfactant = Much little bubbles The Surfactant is used to break the surface tension. So a water with a very low surface tension must break the lava into much bubbles. But we have no answer on this question from Jonny Magma."

"I can tell you, that in the bottle is the exact ammount of wax like in a Grande. I marked me the filling height on the glass of my Grande, but this was not important, because after filling in all of the wax, my mark was touched perfect ;)"

Reszound replied to J W's discussion Question about goo kit. in the group Goo Kit Conversions
"Hey Johnny, just wondering if the amount of wax is exactly the same as what's in a grande - personally I think they have too much wax in them and would benefit from having less like the mathmos bottles do... I'd love to be able to squeeze…"

"I used 58 mL in the grande. It took 5.5 L of water (5.8 quarts). I did try it with 48 mL at first, but it wouldn't flow. At this point it flows nicely and is more of the longer column flow as well."

"How much surfactant did you end up using? I used only 30 ml of surfactant in my Giant refill in order to duplicate the longer "column" flow I like in the original Lava Lamps versus a flow with mostly bubble shapes."

J W replied to Laura Baler's discussion Rewiring UK lamps
"The voltage here in North America is 120V (approximately, you see 115V listed frequently). In the UK it is 240V. If you use a 240V bulb but only give it 120V it won't damage the bulb, but it will be dim. It should actually last a lot longer…"

I received my goo kit as well as an emtpy Grande lava lite. I'm going to fill the grande with the goo kit and thought I'd post my comments, photos, etc. hereI haven't done anything yet, but can give you my initial impressions of the goo kit.It comes well packaged with a lot of stuff inside! There's a litre of goo in a plastic bottle, a smaller amount of surfactant and a wire mesh to be used as a coil. Three colour-dye containers offer yellow, blue and red. You can mix these colours to make…See More

Hey you're welcome.

I guess that's why a lot of us are here, the fascination of the lava flow. I've been nuts about lamps and lighting since being a kid in the 70's and collecting light bulbs. I've over 100 lavas and other funky lamps now.
All the best
