Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Hey all! Just redid my Torchiere lamp and once I drained off the fluid and replaced with destilled h2o it flows china style.  So then I added clear pomolive dish soap and started to get the flow I wanted but water will haze a litte. Will glycerin or surfactant do this hazing and if they don't I need some. Where can you pick up surf or glycerin off the shelf. Thanks in advance.

Used to be able to buy glycerin at Walgreens, came in a small bottle about 2 or 3 fl oz. It makes the lava lighter since the Glycerin is heavier than water, only would use it if your lava is sitting dull and lifeless then it gets it going. It thick and clear like Caro syrup but once it dissolves in the water (mix it well like with a straw or chopstick) it then should get it moving. I remember it making my formations very long and snakelike.

You can get glycrine off line or via a chemest etc - fog fluid also has glyicrine in it so that could work as water for lamps.

Glycrine basickly makes the water denser (same effect can be achived with pure salt) so the wax will rise and flow, surf basickly brakes down the wax into stringiee blobs.

So my advice would be if your happy with the movement of the wax then adding a small (i.e. one drop or 2) of surf too see what it does.
