Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Would it be a good idea to use a rubber stopper as a plug for the top of a lava lamp or would the cork pop off?

Probabley would work if you put it on and then tapped it with a rubber mallet to secure it.

Why are you thinking of using corks / stoppers insted of the oringal or replacement cap for the globe?

I think it could definitely work as long as you cork/cap when the lamp is fully heated up. The Grande has a rubber stopper in it.
It will pop off. I know this from first hand experience.
I was thinking of making a lava lamp out of a erlenmeyer flask and I can't see any other way to seal it other then resorting to a rubber stopper.

I really think if you put it on when the lamp is at it's hottest, run it for a few more hours and then let it cool, it will work. I have the rubber stopper only in my Grande right now and it would indeed pop off until I put it on when it's at its hottest.

Tie a metal wire around it to keep it in place.

They sell cork keepers that are basically wire baskets you put over corked bottles and twist to secure them on. Without something to keep it on, a cork will pop right out or never seal properly.
