I really think if you put it on when the lamp is at it's hottest, run it for a few more hours and then let it cool, it will work. I have the rubber stopper only in my Grande right now and it would indeed pop off until I put it on when it's at its hottest.

I was thinking of making a lava lamp out of a erlenmeyer flask and I can't see any other way to seal it other then resorting to a rubber stopper.
