Noticed air bulbs in mine, does not affect its great flow and I really dont mind unless it becomes a real problem, I must say you have more than mine...
I wonder if it's got something to do with overcooking the wax somewhere in the production process. I did a goo kit on a grande a few months back and it has shocking "bubbitis" that just will not clear. I've run it for weeks, and even popped the top to pop them all with a skewer (too much time on my hands, I know ;) each time I have it almost clear the next time I run it they all come back again... I think I overcooked the goo in the microwave (I did my best not to but I'm not much of a handyman...)
It's disappointing to see this happening with Mathmos - the wax looks way better without bubbles, but as the guys are saying, it's not the first time - my (brand new) yellow fluey has terrible bubbles as well that haven't cleared after 18 months use. I tend not to run it all that often now because of it but anyway...
Anyone got any other ideas for trying to clear them...? Maybe the wax can be separated, put in a container and banged on a bench or something to pop them, like you do with espresso milk, or something... who knows, it may be so crazy it just might work!
Hope it clears up for you, otherwise I'd be asking for a replacement I reckon...

Wow hopefully the bubbles clear up over time. Maybe they happen from all the hand work done at the factory. According to some, they have been using the same formula since the 60's and I have never seen this in a quality Mathmos lamp. Hopefully they didnt have the China factory that built the Fireflow bases fill these globes too. Good luck.
I have the exact same lamp/color cycle, got it 2 1/2 months ago, the lava in mine looked the same for about the first month or so, since then it´s been getting better. The lava flow in mine only looks good for about 2 hours, after that the lava disintegrates into lots of smaller bubbles, really unattractive. The LED´s in mine have stopped cycling, and can now only display a turquish greenish color, this happened about one month in... all in all I am disappointed with this lamp, should really contact Mathmos, but I live in Denmark, and to return it to England would be a hazzle... I love all my other Mathmos lamps though, have 1 Astro, 2 Astro baby, 1 Telstar and 3 Fireflows, they all look and perform beautifully. The Smart Astro needs more work from Mathmos.
Looks just like my fluidium. Its still bubbly after having ran it countless times.
