Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

This is that one 32oz globe that I posted was available in the buy/sell/trade forum.  Just curious, what causes the lava to behave like this?  Was it cooked at some point w/ the wrong bulb, or ran to long, or is it just simply worn out?

The pics don't show the whole story....in person the wax is not only bubbly but its also kind of chunky, and when its off has some brown spots in it.

First thought is overheated repeatedly.  I'd cycle it lots while making sure it got to melted but not necessarily fully flowing

i agree with bridget - overheated repeatedly.  i don't know if you can salvage it at this point, but you can always try!
