Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

I want to change the color in one of my china cheapies and read some where ( here I think ) about someone preferring to do it with the lamp running.  Can't find the post now, but would like to know the proper method if any one can enlighten me.

with the lamp flowing, add small amounts of paint at a time, let it mix, and then determine if you should add more.  obviously you can always add more, but you can't take it away, so adding small amounts at a time is recommended.  i've only used goo kit dyes in the past, so i can't speak about how much oil paint to add.
